According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Monday, June 15, 2026, Iran has announced that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United States has been finalized and is scheduled to be formally signed later this week, marking a significant development in relations between the two countries.
Speaking early Monday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said the agreement would be officially signed during a ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday. His remarks were reported by the semi-official Mehr News Agency.
Gharibabadi also disclosed that the process of ending the United States naval blockade against Iran would begin on Sunday night, U.S. time, in line with the terms of the newly concluded agreement.
According to the Iranian official, the memorandum is the product of both diplomatic negotiations and what he described as Iran’s military successes during the recent conflict.
“The enemy that launched the attack failed in all of its malicious objectives, and the Islamic Republic achieved major victories in the war,” Gharibabadi said.
He maintained that Tehran had successfully incorporated its core positions and strategic interests into the final draft of the agreement. He added that the complete text of the memorandum would be released to the public after the formal signing ceremony in Geneva.
Gharibabadi further stated that Iranian authorities would embark on a public information campaign ahead of the signing, using state and public media platforms to explain the contents, implications and achievements of the agreement.
The announcement follows a statement by United States President Donald Trump, who confirmed on Sunday that Washington and Tehran had concluded negotiations on a comprehensive deal aimed at ending hostilities and easing tensions in the region.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared that the agreement with Iran had been completed and unveiled plans to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote.
The US president also announced that he had authorized “the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz” and ordered the “immediate removal” of the United States naval blockade.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors, serving as a major route for global oil and energy shipments. The reopening of the waterway and the lifting of naval restrictions are expected to have significant implications for international trade, energy markets and regional stability.
The forthcoming signing ceremony in Geneva is expected to provide further details on the agreement, which both sides have described as a major diplomatic breakthrough despite longstanding tensions and mutual distrust.
