Iran has flaunted images it claims show the wreckage of a US F-15 fighter jet allegedly damaged by Tehran’s air defence system. Tasnim News Agency posted a photo purporting to show the wreckage of the aircraft on Telegram, capturing what appears to be the remains of the cockpit.
Iranian state media also released images of debris from alleged US or Israeli drones shot down during the war by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air defence systems. The debris was reportedly displayed at a private aerospace exhibition showing off what Iran has destroyed during recent hostilities
It is not known if the photos are authentic, and there has been no official confirmation from the US regarding the F-15.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that Iran had been “decimated”, adding: “Iran, where the country has been decimated for the purpose of NOT ALLOWING IT TO EVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, is going very well!”
Iran said Wednesday it is in the “final stage” of drafting an agreement with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz, and the US President has said a deal could be announced this week.
That could potentially reopen the critical waterway, ease pressure on the world economy and help bring an end to the war. But the agreement is likely contingent on the US lifting its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran has insisted on some degree of control over the strait, saying it will not go back to being an open international waterway as it was before the war.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, said that the agreement with Oman is in the “final stage” of drafting.
He added that a joint statement will be issued “if certain parties do not obstruct this process”, apparently referring to the US.
Mr Trump was asked on Tuesday evening by reporters about a report on the Axios news site that an announcement on the strait could be made on Wednesday.
He said: “It could happen. Tomorrow or the next day. A lot of progress has been made.”
In recent days, he has alternately threatened massive strikes and voiced support for diplomatic efforts.
