Imo state police command arrests suspect accused of defiling 15-year-old, detain officers who allegedly demanded N100,000 from victim

Wisdom Onyeaju, a 24-year-old man from Umuekweye, Irete, Owerri-West Local Government Area, has been detained by the Imo State Police Command on suspicion of def!lement.

The arrest came after the Command received reliable information from the victim’s family, who had previously brought the incident to the public’s attention via a widely shared video on social media.

Following the incident, the victim’s sister went online to ask for assistance. She said in a widely shared video that the suspect had s.£>ually a$$aulted her sister and threatened to use the police to silence her family. She stated that the police officers on duty demanded N100,000 before they could take the victim’s statement after the incident was reported to the police station near the Imo state government house.

The suspect is currently being held and is being thoroughly investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), according to a statement issued this morning by DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo police command. He will be charged in court with the relevant charge or charges after the investigation is finished.

Okoye further added that the command has identified and detained the police officers alleged to have engaged in professional misconduct in the handling of the case. He mentioned that an Orderly Room Trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday, 12th January, 2026, in line with extant police regulations.
