“I’m ready to die for Nigeria” — Peter Obi declares

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has sparked online debate after renewing his devotion to Nigeria, saying he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country if required.

Speaking at a public event, Obi emphasised that leadership necessitates courage, sacrifice, and a desire to stand with the people in difficult times.

His words rapidly went viral on social media, with both supporters and detractors commenting on them.

The former Anambra State governor discussed patriotism and the obligations that come with seeking public office.

He believes that anyone aspiring to leadership must be willing to accept hardships and make personal sacrifices for the sake of the nation.

Addressing the audience, Obi said:

If you’re ready to lead you must be ready to die. If you’re not ready to die go home.”

Nigerians reacted to the statement, interpreting it as a call for selfless leadership in the face of the country’s severe economic and social crises.

Obi also discussed his loyalty to Nigeria, maintaining that despite potential prospects, he has never sought citizenship in any country.

Tomorrow if I’m outside the country and there is war I’ll come back. I’m a Nigerian. I’ve never had any reason to have any countries passport. God created me a Nigerian and I’m ready to die here.” he added.

His remarks come at a time when migration, national identity, and political leadership remain central to Nigerian public conversation.

The words have sparked extensive discussion online, with many Nigerians debating the definitions of patriotism, leadership duty, and dedication to national progress.
