“If you disrespect him in my presence, what will you do when alone?” — Pastor Eno Jerry Eze says

Pastor Eno Jerry Eze has ignited online debate after delivering a sermon about the behaviour of women in relationships.

Speaking to her audience, the pastor underlined that women should submit to their partners.

“Anything anybody want to tell you let them tell you but you see this one submission? We must submit ourselves as women. We must!” she stated, urging young women to uphold respect and decorum in the presence of men.

Pastor Eno recalled incidents from her counselling sessions in which ladies blatantly disrespected him.

I see women, young girls, 28, 27, 32 when I’m counselling them if you see the way they are eying the man, if you see the disrespect in front of me… calling him ‘f00lish man’ in front of me, not behind me, and I look at them and I say if you can do this in my presence what will you be doing to him when you are alone?” she said.

The pastor’s remarks have divided social media users. Supporters claim that his remark encourages the principles of respect and commitment in relationships, while detractors call the statement antiquated and patriarchal.

Conversations online illustrate ongoing discussions in Nigerian society about gender roles, morality, and expectations in romantic relationships.

Many readers questioned whether such advise is consistent with modern attitudes toward equality and mutual respect in relationships.
