A Nigerian man has sparked varied reactions online after discussing his thoughts on infidelity in marriage, stating that if his wife cheated on him, he would dissolve the marriage instantly, but would accept forgiveness if he was the one who strayed.
Speaking in a video that circulated on X (previously Twitter), he insisted that a wife’s adultery is a deal breaker for him, saying there would be no room for discussion if this happened in his marriage.
While he says he would beg forgiveness if he cheated, he expects his wife to forgive him because of her kind character.

“For me, if my wife cheats on me, that is the end. That is the deal breaker. I cannot negotiate it. But if I cheat, I will beg for forgiveness. I believe strongly that she is kind-hearted and that she will forgive me.
Traditionally in Africa, men are ascribed to be polygamous. Therefore, we can be in a marriage or relationship and still have extramarital affairs or cheat on our partner and get away with it. But we men do not want the women we see as our shrine to cheat.”
He continued by saying that while African males are typically thought of as polygamous, some of them have extramarital encounters while still expecting their spouses to be faithful.
Since then, his comments have provoked strong online reactions, with many social media users disagreeing over what they called a “double standard” in partnerships.
