“I made a mistake. Personal matters should be kept private” – Bashir Elrufai publicly apologies for announcing his divorce on social media

Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly apologized for the manner in which he announced the end of his marriage to his former wife, Halima Nwakaego Kazaure.

Bashir made the apology through his X account on Saturday, June 13, 2026, and stated that he had also personally apologized to Halima.

“I made a mistake a few weeks ago and I would like to apologize.  Personal matters should be kept private,” he wrote.

Bashir and Halima, the daughter of former Minister of Labour and Productivity Ibrahim Kazaure, got married in 2020 and welcomed twins the following year.

He had earlier announced the dissolution of the marriage on X, attributing it to what he described as “Gen Z wahala.”

The announcement came after his public admiration for another woman generated reactions from social media users, many of whom pointed out that he was married.

“I’m not married yet. I am divorced. Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife (I have no time for Gen Z wahala).,” he wrote.

“The difference is clear, I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it.” he added

Bashir also stated that he had never wooed any woman and claimed that it was Halima who proposed to him.

“I don’t toast, babes. Never have. It’s not even about bragging rights or pride. Neither have I ever used money to buy companionship. Sometimes it’s even years later that I discover one babe or another likes,” he wrote.

“I can’t tell. They make the first move. I also never asked a girl to marry me. Even in my 1st, she was the one who proposed. Not to impress anyone, but that’s the fact.”
