“I can’t divorce my wife simply because I caught her with another man” – Man shares his perspective on infidelity

A Nigerian man has expressed his opinion on marital infidelity, saying that if he discovered his wife seeing another man, he would not file for divorce right away.

The man clarified in a video posted on X (previously Twitter) that his choice would be based on his personal convictions and opinion that before making significant decisions, couples should first look at their marital problems.

He believes that when a man discovers his wife cheating, he should consider whether there was a marital flaw that might have led to her behaviour.

“I can’t divorce my wife simply because I caught her with another man. This is not for the applause, and I’m not saying it just to make anyone feel happy. It’s just me, my conviction and my belief.

Now, if I catch my wife red-handed with another man, I will ask myself some personal questions. Is there any part of me that is not okay for her?” he said.

The speaker emphasised that Africans frequently make snap judgements without taking the time to comprehend the circumstances surrounding marital issues.

He advised couples to consider their individual roles and consider whether problems within the partnership may have contributed to the situation rather than accusing an unfaithful partner right away.

“The truth is, we Africans like jumping into conclusion without trying to clarify the issues within ourselves. You could be the reason why she’s doing what she’s doing,” he added.

His remarks have sparked debates on the internet, with some contending that adultery is still a grave betrayal of trust and others agreeing that couples should look into the underlying issues in their marriages.

The man’s viewpoint has persisted in igniting discussions on accountability, forgiveness, and how married couples should handle infidelity.
