“How is this possible?; my husband and I are not the parent of our last child” – Woman cries out

"How is this possible?; my husband and I are not the parent of our last child" - Woman cries out

After learning that the youngest child they had been raising for years was not biologically related to either of them, a Nigerian couple’s life fell apart.

The couple, who had been married for six years and had three kids, had just started preparing to move overseas.

In order to establish parentage for immigration purposes, the husband required paternity tests for each of the three children.

DNA Test Sparks Family Crisis

The family was taken aback by the results: the youngest child tested negative, but the oldest two were confirmed to be theirs. According to reports, the husband came home furious.

“My home was on fire,” the mother said. “Everything was turned upside down. He was shouting and screaming that I was cheating and that I had brought another man’s child into our home. I was confused because I had never stepped outside this marriage.”

The husband allegedly called her parents, relatives, and friends, spreading accusations about her character. He threatened to end the marriage immediately.

“Thank God he hadn’t gotten the visa yet,” she said. “Otherwise, he could have been accused of fraud. He was bitter, angry, and furious.”

Determined to Prove the Truth

Despite the accusations, the mother knew she had not been unfaithful. “I kept asking myself, ‘How is this possible? How could I bring another man’s child into our home?’”

She suggested a second DNA test, but her husband refused to pay for it. Taking matters into her own hands, she used her own money to test both her husband and herself again.

The results were shocking: the child was still not her husband’s. Even more devastatingly, she discovered she was not the child’s biological mother either.

“I was furious,” she said. “Something had gone wrong at the hospital. If I had cheated on my husband, it would have explained it, but I hadn’t.”

Hospital Error Revealed

Further investigation revealed a heartbreaking truth: the child they had been raising belonged to another family, while their biological child was being raised elsewhere.

The mother, who delivered via C-section, had been mistakenly given the wrong baby by the hospital.

My child was alive, and that is all that matters,” she said. “But this experience has been traumatic. We had been raising another family’s child, while our own child was with strangers.”

Lessons Learned and Advice

The mother warned other parents to be vigilant when registering for hospital deliveries.

“From the day you register for antenatal care, if they tell you nobody will be allowed in the labour room, don’t register there. Mistakes like this can happen.”

The family is now focused on reconnecting with their biological child while coping with the emotional toll of the hospital mix-up.
