A Nigerian lady has recounted an awkward experience she allegedly had with a man after he spent more than ₦180,000 on their dinner date.
Speaking during an appearance on the Whotpocast, she said the man began driving towards his house after their dinner instead of taking her home.
According to her, she made it clear that she was not going to his house that night. The man then reportedly pulled over and told her to order an Uber because he would not be driving her home.
Sharing her experience, she said:
“I once went on a date with a guy, and after dinner, he started driving me to his house instead of taking me home. I told him I wasn’t going to his house that night, so he pulled over and told me to order an Uber because he wouldn’t be able to drive me home.
He had spent over ₦180k on the date, and maybe that made him think I would automatically follow him home. My Uber hadn’t even arrived before he drove off.”
The lady suggested that the amount spent on the date may have influenced the man’s expectations, but maintained that paying for the outing did not mean she was obligated to go home with him.
Her account has generated reactions online, with social media users discussing whether spending a significant amount on a date should create any expectation of intimacy.
While some questioned the man’s decision to leave before her Uber arrived, others emphasised the importance of respecting personal boundaries regardless of the amount spent on a date.
The incident has further fueled conversations about dating expectations, personal boundaries and whether paying for a date should come with any conditions.
