In response to repeated requests from Kiev for more powerful armaments, Finland has stated it is prepared to provide tanks if Europe agrees to the move.
Western allies of Kiev have so far refused requests for tanks out of concern that they may intensify the conflict. However, after the US, France, and Germany donated armoured vehicles last week, that may soon change.
According to reports, Finland’s military committee chairman indicated on Saturday that if Europe approved, his nation would be willing to give Ukraine Leopard 2 combat tanks.
“If Europe starts giving tanks to Ukraine even an inch more, Finland should be involved. Of course, with our small contribution, because our own defense capability is always a priority for us as a border country with Russia,” IndeAntti Hakkianen was quoted by the Kyiv Independent as saying.
Finland has more than 100 of the German-made tanks, which weigh around 60 tons and have the ability to engage moving targets while moving over rough terrain.
