The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday in celebration of the 2026 International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made on Thursday, April 30, in Abuja by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on behalf of the federal government.
In a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Nigerian workers for their dedication and continued contributions to national growth and economic development.
Tunji-Ojo praised the resilience and hard work of labourers across the country, describing them as a vital force behind Nigeria’s progress and prosperity. He also encouraged workers in both the public and private sectors to remain committed to patriotism, productivity, and national development.
The minister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and security while promoting a business-friendly environment that supports economic growth.
He further urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday celebration and encouraged citizens to reflect on the importance of unity, diligence, and collective effort in nation building.
