Fabregas returns to Arsenal with Como in pre-season friendly

Cesc Fabregas, former Arsenal captain, will make an emotional return to the Emirates Stadium on August 12, after Como secured a pre-season friendly against the Premier League champions.

As preparations for the 2026/27 season begin, Arsenal and the Italian team will clash for the first time.

Fabregas, who is now Como’s head coach, spent eight years with Arsenal after making his senior debut in 2003. The Spaniard will be returning to North London for the first time as an opposing manager.

The game will be played at the Emirates Stadium, 10 days before Como’s Serie A season begins away against Udinese.

It also acts as part of the Italian club’s preparations for their first UEFA Champions League campaign, after finishing fourth in Serie A previous season, ahead of AC Milan and Juventus.

Arsenal, however, will use the game as one of their final warm-ups before defending their Premier League championship at home against newly promoted Coventry City.

In announcing the game, Como hailed it as a vital test ahead of a historic season.

“Como 1907 will travel to Emirates Stadium this summer to face Arsenal, the reigning English champions and European runners-up, in a preseason friendly scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. BST.”

The club also stated: “The match will mark the first-ever meeting between Como 1907 and Arsenal, bringing the Lariani to the magical and iconic setting of the Emirates Stadium.”

Como also emphasised the importance of playing one of Europe’s top clubs before making their Champions League debut.

“For the BiancoBlu, it will be an excellent opportunity to test themselves against one of Europe’s strongest and most consistent teams in preparation for a season that will see Como 1907 compete in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.”
