Two actors and musicians from Nigeria, Folarin “Falz” Falana and Peter “Mr P” Okoye, have accused the Nigerian Police for failing to protect voters during the general elections in 2023.
Their main concern was the intimidation of Lagos state voters by thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election was plagued by high levels of violence and intimidation, many of which were committed in front of security personnel.
In recent films, police officers may be seen either monitoring the chaos or actively working to prevent many people from exercising their right to vote.
In reaction to the chaos, Falz tweeted: “I am so livid. This level of fuckery is unbelievable!
“A couple of Arise TV journalists were very badly beaten up at my polling unit. OF COURSE, in the presence of Police officers!”
“On the basis of which logic do you conclude that it’s okay to use force to get people to ‘vote’ for you ? All you supporters and enablers of this fxxkery are even more despicable. You know better, but you are EVIL at heart. You are VILE!”
Also, Peter Okoye said; “We do not have police in Nigeria! All we have is thugs with uniforms! SHAME ON THEM!
You might recall that the police had brushed off the threat made by Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, the head of the state’s parks management committee, targeting non-Lagos residents as a simple joke.
In a widely shared video, Oluomo issued a warning to Igbo residents of Lagos State, advising them to either vote for the All Progressives Party, APC, in the upcoming governorship elections, or stay inside.
