According to reports, the bus driver on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway dozed off and drove into a stopped vehicle, killing himself and his motor boy.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 6:30 am, the event reportedly took place near Saapade in the Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State while travelling to Lagos.
The Howo truck, marked EKY 65 XF, and a J5 bus without a licence plate were both involved in the collision, according to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, who confirmed the occurrence.
Akinbiyi blamed the crash on overspeeding and wrongful overtaking on the part of the bus.
Two of the four persons involved in the crash, died on the spot while the other two were unhurt.
“The presumed dead were taken to FOS morgue, Ipara, by the owner of the morgue with his ambulance,” Akinbiyi explained.
According to him, a truck, loaded with flour products, developed a mechanical problem and had to be parked by the roadside.
“However, in the course of attending to the vehicle, the J5 bus which was loaded with tomatoes, pepper and the like, rammed into the Howo truck from behind due to excessive speed and the driver dozing on wheels. Due to the impact of the collision, the driver and the motor boy were killed instantly,” he said.
