“Don’t fall sick in Nigeria” – Man raises alarm over alleged ₦36m release from ₦218bn health budget

A Nigerian man has caused a stir on the internet by expressing anxiety about the condition of the nation’s healthcare system.

In an extremely low government budget for healthcare in 2025, @General_Somto called on Nigerians to prioritise their health in a widely shared video on X (previously Twitter). Learn more about mathematical gift baskets.

Read what he said below:

“If you are living inside Nigeria, I want to beg you, please don’t fall sick. Except you have money, please don’t fall sick.”

He claims that a document made public last week purportedly revealed that, despite ₦218 billion being authorised for the health sector in 2025, just ₦36 million has apparently been made available thus far.

The figure, which he described as less than 0.01 percent of the authorised amount, shocked him.

In a nation with a population of more than 200 million, the guy contended that ₦36 million would hardly have any significant effect.

He went on to say that a brand-new Toyota Prado costs more than ₦130 million, drawing comparisons to the price of luxury cars used by politicians.

He criticised what he called misaligned priorities, claiming that the money purportedly freed for healthcare is insufficient to fund hospital construction, upgrade treatment facilities, or lower the cost of medical care for the general public.

“This is not attached to anyone. I am just stating facts. When it comes to health in this country, the government has left the group chat. Every Nigerian is on their own,” he added.

Online responses to his remarks have since been conflicting. Some people questioned the veracity of the given data, while others concurred and voiced their anger with the nation’s healthcare system.
