“Didn’t you enjoy it?”: Lawyer told me I can’t sue a lady for rape in Nigeria — Man cries for justice

A Nigerian man has stirred up controversy on the internet by asserting that he was unable to take legal action against a female acquaintance whom he claimed had sexually assaulted him.

After being informed that he could not file a lawsuit due to current legal restrictions, the man narrated his story in a widely viewed video on X, now known as Twitter, and claimed to feel powerless.

He revealed in the tearful video that the woman in question was someone he had known for a very long time. Although he frequently travelled to her location to see another acquaintance, he claimed that they had not seen one another in a long time.

During those visits, he claimed he typically did not find time to see her.She allegedly convinced him to visit her home before leaving on the day of the alleged encounter, though.

The man claimed that after hanging out with his other friend, he agreed and went to see her. He said she greeted him and offered him a drink when he arrived.

He claimed that shortly after consuming the beverage, he started to feel weird and lost the ability to move his hands and legs normally.

Read what he stated in the video below:

She offered me a drink and I drank it only for me to not be able to move my hand, move my legs and I just noticed that I’m trying to take out my belt, you know lose my Jean and I kept on saying, what is going on.”

He went on to say that he wondered what was going on but felt helpless to stop it. He claimed that after engaging in sexual activity, he slept off.

He asserted that the woman did not discuss the incident or admit that anything out of the ordinary had occurred the next morning. The man claimed that he was really upset as he left her house.

He clarified that he went to a hospital right away to get tested to make sure he hadn’t gotten infected.

He eventually spoke with a lawyer to discuss his legal options after expressing his frustration.

He claims that because of the way the crime is described in some legal rules, it is challenging for a man to sue a woman for rape under Nigerian law.

He said: “I tried to sue a friend, a female friend for sexual assault only got my lawyer to tell that in Nigeria, a man can not sue a woman when it involves rape.”

He further stated, “When a woman rapes a man, the man can’t sue the woman, and I’m like really?”

Since then, the allegations have sparked intense internet discussion, with many people discussing Nigeria’s justice system’s treatment of sexual assaults.
