A tragic incident has claimed the life of a 33-year-old father during a bull-running festival in Jaén
The victim, Santiago Barrero San Román, was fatally injured during the San Marcos festival on Friday, April 24. Reports say he was att@cked on Calle Palomares—an area locally referred to as the “street of hell” due to the intensity of bull runs held there.
Video circulating on social shows the bull lifting him into the air and repeatedly goring him with its horns. Despite efforts by bystanders to restrain the animal using a rope tied to its horns, the att@ck continued, with some onlookers attempting to intervene while others took cover.
San Román sustained severe injuries to his chest, abdomen, and groin and later d!ed in hospital.
He was a cattle breeder from a well-known local farming family and is survived by his young daughter and his pregnant wife, Vanesa, who is expecting their second child.
“You are the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me,” the grieving widow wrote on Instagram.
“From the moment I wake up until I go to sleep, you are my first and last thought.”
“You are everything to me, to our daughters. I hope you give me strength and accompany me every day of my life, every step of the way, because I swear I will never stop thinking about you, about our dreams, our plans, our life together.
“I’m broken for life because life has taken you from me unjustly and far too soon, because you had your whole life ahead of you with everything you had achieved.
“Your girls, your mother, your best friends, and everyone in the bullfighting world who truly loved you are devastated, but we will always keep you in our hearts, my love.”
San Román di£d just four days after renowned matador Morante de la Puebla, dubbed the “King of Bullfighters,” was gored up his rectum during a performance gone wrong at the packed Maestranza arena in Seville.
