“Cry to the government” – Woman says as she cuts off water supply to residents over ₦20k election bribes

A Nigerian woman has revealed how she cut off water supply to members of her community after accusing them of accepting money from politicians during elections rather than voting for candidates of their choice.

In a video circulating online, she said she had been providing water to several households in her community for years due to the lack of clean water and good roads in the area.

She claimed that some residents collected ₦15,000 while others got ₦20,000 during the governorship and local government elections, allowing the cash to influence how they voted.

However, she said she was disappointed that the same people came back to rely on her for water after spending the money they collected.

The woman noted that she personally pays for the meter and pumps the water herself, stressing that she is not the government that should be providing basic infrastructure.

Out of frustration, she said she decided to stop supplying water to them and told the residents to go to the government officials they collected money from for help.

“Go and cry to your government. The government that you’ve collected ₦20k from. How can you cry to the government to give you water, road and light when they’ve already paid you ₦20k naira? The ₦20k they gave you, that is your children’s future. The things that your children are supposed to benefit,” she lamented.

She argued that the cash residents collected during the elections was equivalent to opportunities their children could have enjoyed in the form of improved roads, electricity, water supply, scholarships, and healthcare.

The woman insisted that she would no longer shoulder the responsibility of supplying water to residents she accused of trading their children’s future for money.
