The National Democratic Congress (NDC) may soon have its registration revoked, according to Dr. Umar Ardo, who also disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already filed a lawsuit challenging the NDC’s recognition.
In a recent interview on a Hausa television platform, Ardo said that the case raises concerns about the legitimacy of the NDC registration process and expressed optimism that the court would reverse it.
“We are in court over NDC irregularities in registration by INEC. The court will cancel the NDC registration,” he said.
Ardo, the convener of the League of Northern Democrats and a major supporter of the All Democratic Alliance, insisted that due process must be observed in party registration but did not provide any other information on the lawsuit.
The NDC is viewed in certain sectors as a component of the changing opposition landscape, and the development coincides with increasing political realignments and the formation of new platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Neither INEC nor the NDC have formally addressed the allegation as of the time of publication.
