Chelle urges focus as Super Eagles dominate Mozambique 4–0 at AFCON 2025

Nigeria’s decisive 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fès on Monday was praised by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who described it as a powerful declaration of purpose at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria advanced to the competition quarterfinals thanks to goals from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, as well as a brace from Victor Osimhen, who earned his 50th senior cap.

Sharp attacking play, accurate teamwork, and efficient finishing characterised the performance.

I’m pleased with the team’s display. Scoring four goals is significant, but we must remember this is only one match,” Chelle told reporters.

He cautioned against overconfidence while praising the team for their dedication and discipline. “The work is still ongoing. We have to continue to be intense and focused,” he continued.

The coach also outlined preparations for the next stage. “We’ll travel to Marrakech on Wednesday to prepare for a tough quarter-final clash against the winner of Algeria and DR Congo,” Chelle said.

Emphasising team unity, Chelle noted that all internal matters would remain private. “My responsibility is to keep the players concentrated and disciplined. Success starts with focus and consistency,” he said.

With this victory, Nigeria maintains its hopes of winning the AFCON trophy and moves on to the quarterfinals.
