“Brand new phone…”— Man shares what he got at an APC event

A man has sparked debate on social media after exhibiting the cell phone he allegedly received at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally.

In an internet video, the man unboxed what appeared to be a basic smartphone packaged in a special container featuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s image. The container also carried APC insignia and slogans expressing support for the President.

The video showed the gadget being removed from the box, with the camera focusing on its contents, which included campaign-themed items placed alongside the phone. The unconventional branding instantly grabbed the attention of numerous social media users, with others expressing opposing views on the gesture.

Tinubu’s photograph was prominently displayed on the package, along with statements encouraging people to support the administration. The phone itself appeared to be an entry-level Android handset, and the box included printed advertising materials related to the APC.

Although the precise event and amount of phones distributed were not immediately known, the video has continued to gather attention on social media channels.

Nigerians have had diverse reactions to the viral video online. While some users regarded the customised phone as a nice gift for guests, others questioned the value of handing out personalised devices at a political event.

The video has sparked further debate, with many social media users criticising political campaign techniques, public perception, and the increasing use of branded objects at party events.
