A group of armed bandits attacked the Maru Police Station on Saturday night, March 5, 2023. Maru Police Station serves as the headquarters of the Maru local government area in Zamfara State, Nigeria. The bandits had the intention of abducting residents of the area.

Sadly, during the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station, identified as Kazeem Raheem was shot and killed during the ensuing gun battle.

Mallam Mohammed Amadu, an indigene of the area spoke to newsmen, said, the bandits stormed into the town on Saturday night and launched an attack on the community.

However, he said that the attack resulted in the loss of lives and the abduction of women in the state. Also, he stated that the incident caused fear and panic among residents. He pleaded that government should take urgent steps to address the security situation in the area.

The security agencies in the state have launched an investigation into the attack and have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

On the other hand, the state government has also called for calm and urged residents to provide useful information that will assist in the investigation and subsequent arrest of the bandits.

The attack on Maru Police Station is the latest in a series of security challenges facing Zamfara State.
