After an officer who was too eager to pull the trigger killed an elderly woman named Maryam Abdullahi, angry teenagers attacked a police station in Yola, Adamawa State.
On Thursday, February 16, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the event reportedly took place at Doubeli in the Jimeta neighbourhood of Yola.
A young man was reportedly apprehended by police officers who were conducting a routine patrol in the area when they discovered him sitting in front of his compound.
The locals resisted the police’s attempts to take him away and demanded an explanation. As a result, the police opened fire, killing the 70-year-old grandmother.
Along with the grandma, a young male in the same vicinity was hurt by the occasional gunfire.
Aside the grandmother, a young man in the same area also sustained an injury during the sporadic gunfire.
The remains of the woman have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Yola.
Meanwhile, irate youths were said to have demolished the Doubeli police station.
