82-year-old woman bags Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland with honours, celebrates achievement

People all across the world have been inspired by Mae Beale, a remarkable 82-year-old who earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).

Mae Beale received her certification just one day after turning 82. In a news release from the University of Maryland Global Campus, it was highlighted that Mae Beale, who was in her late 70s when she enrolled in school to obtain a Bachelor’s degree, was a notable example (UMGC).

She had previously worked in Washington, DC, as a certified practical nurse for a number of years.

“Over her long career as an LPN in Washington, D.C., Beale worked at health care and government agencies in the area, including Children’s National Hospital, the National Naval Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), the Washington VA Medical Center Hospital, and later joined the Department of Health and Human Services,” the statement read.

“It was at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid where Beale’s career pivoted toward business and event planning,” the statement continued.

Mae Beale asserted that her supervisors thought she had something special since she arranged important events while working for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

At the age of 54, Beale started her own event planning business and enrolled at Howard Community College to obtain an associate’s degree in business management, according to the news release.
