34-YEAR-OLD WOMAN STABS ANOTHER WITH A BROKEN BOTTLE IN LAGOS

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 34-year-old woman, Kehinde Adesanya, in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing another woman with a broken bottle.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Adesanya, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of assault occasioning harm, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant. Mary Ajiteru told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 8, at 8:30 pm at No. 72 Isawo Road, Owutu, Agric. area of Ikorodu.

Ajiteru alleged that the defendant unlawfully stabbed one Mrs Abosede on her left arm with a broken bottle which caused her bodily injury.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 246(a) of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Magistrate, C.K Tunji-Careena, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N70,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 6, for mention.

Tunji-Careena added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.

In another recent development, a 33-year-old student of the University of Abuja, UNIABUJA, Allen Abiodun was Monday sentenced to death by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja for killing his younger brother, Wale with a broken bottle.

The court presided over by Justice Raliatu Adebiyi held that the prosecution proved the ingredients of murder against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt as required by law.

Justice Adebiyi while pronouncing the sentence recounted that the convict who was 27 years old at the time of committing the murder, had in his confessional statement stated that he was awakened from sleep and saw his younger brother, Wale Allen, standing before him with a bottle.

The defendant in the statement said he quickly grabbed another bottle and stabbed his brother who died instantly. To cover up the act, he dragged the corpse to a nearby bush and covered it with leaves so that nobody would find it.
