A 23-year-old air stewardess could be executed after being found with drugs in Saudi Arabia.
Ilaria De Rosa, from the small Italian town of Resana in the Province of Treviso, was reportedly arrested on May 6 for drug possession, as her parents explained her phone was suddenly out of operation.
They say they are now desperately worried about the potential consequences given the harsh sentences that include the death penalty in the Middle Eastern country.
They only found out what had happened after reaching out to police having not heard back from her for several days after she landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED or KAIA) at the Red Sea resort of Jeddah, earlier this month.
Ilaria – a flight attendant at Lithuanian airline Avion Express – reportedly stayed in touch with her parents wherever she went.
Italian media report that she had been detained over an alleged case of drug trafficking.
Anyone caught trying to smuggle illegal substances into Saudi Arabia faces drastic punishment regardless of the amount and kind of drug.
