Nine die as vehicle plunges into dam in Kano

In Kano State’s Gwarzo Local Government Area, a car crash into a dam claimed the lives of nine people.

Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano Fire Service’s public relations officer, verified the occurrence in a statement on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

The state fire department received an emergency call from one Ali Faci on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at around 6:45 p.m., he claimed.

“Faci reported an incident at the Fada Dam in the Dayi Road, Gwarzo Local Government Area, and added that fire crews mobilized from the Gwarzo fire station and arrived at the scene at around 7:10 p.m.

“They found that a Kano-bound unregistered Golf Wagon that was on its way to Katsina had crashed into the Fada dam. On the spot, 12 unidentified people were saved.

The victims involved in the accident were two six months old girls, four women of about 30, 28, 27 and 25 years old, as well as six men of about 48, 45, 42, 40, 35 and 28 years old.

With the assistance of local fishers, the firemen successfully rescued three persons alive, while nine other victims, who were unconscious, were conveyed to Gwarzo General Hospital for medical attention but doctors confirmed them dead.

An eyewitness said one the victims is still in the dam, adding that the search for the missing victim will continue.
