Picture of a man ‘speaking on a cell phone’ in the 1940s goes viral

On social media, this image is becoming very popular. It depicts a man who appears to be speaking on a cell phone in a black and white 1940s photograph.

The photo is perplexing because Motorola didn’t invent telephones until 1973, and it wasn’t until 1983 that people could really buy them to use.

Anyone with a justification for it? Perhaps a manipulated image?
