53-year-old government worker is detained after being accused of scamming 23 churchgoers

The suspect, a Kwara State Ministry of Finance employee, was charged with four charges of employment fraud and fraud relating to the Hajj journey.

Mrs. Oyawoye Olajumoke Fafemi, a 53-year-old government servant, was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with scamming 23 churchgoers who were looking for work.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Commission presented Jumoke for arraignment on Monday, September 26, before Justice Mohammed Sani of the Federal High in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspect, a Kwara State Ministry of Finance employee, was charged with four charges of employment fraud and fraud relating to the Hajj journey.

The defendant is alleged to have solicited money from 23 members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Offa, Kwara State, under the pretense of assisting them in obtaining employment with the Kwara State Civil Service Commission and Federal Government Parastatals, a promise she never made, according to a statement from EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren on Tuesday, September 27.
