Two arrested for allegedly gangraping an 18-year-old lady in Ogun

On Tuesday, August 30, officers from the Ogun State Police command detained two males, Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin, who were accused of planning to gang rape an 18-year-old girl (name withheld).

According to a statement made by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson for the state police command, the suspects were detained in response to a complaint made by the victim at the Ogijo divisional headquarters, alleging that she boarded a commercial motorcycle at around 8 am on the specified date from the MRI company area to the Ogijo bus stop.

On the way, though, the rider, who was accompanied by another male passenger, abruptly changed to a different route, and the second male passenger began threatening to kill her if she didn’t help them.

”She complained further that they forcefully took her to a room in one house in the area, where two other men were waiting for them. On getting there, the two men they met in the room and the accompanied male passenger took turns to have sex with her forcefully. 

Upon the report, the DPO Ogijo division, CSP Onatufe Umoh, detailed his detectives to the scene where two amongst the suspects were apprehended while their other accomplices escaped. 

The two arrested suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime.” the statement read

Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution. He said the Commissioner also directed that the escaped members of the gang must be hunted for and brought to book.
