A guy who forced his way into a family’s house and raped a mother and her 14-year-old daughter has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
When Joshua Carney, 28, carried out the random attack in Cardiff at 6:45 a.m. on March 1, the mother was getting ready for work and her daughter was sound asleep upstairs. Carney was under the influence of spice at the time.
After completing half of an eight-year term for breaking into six homes throughout the city, the professional thief had just been released from jail five days ago.
After hearing Carney attempt the door handle and then the letter box, the mother reportedly went to the front door.
She stepped out into the street only to see Carney, dishevelled and barefoot, hiding around the side of her house.
Carney forced his way inside and locked himself in after requesting that she call him a taxi. Then he repeatedly punched her in the face before raping her in the living room.
When the young child heard her mother being attacked, she dialed 911.
In order to prevent them both from being killed, Carney tried to break into her room, but her mother ordered her to open it.
He grabbed the girl’s phone and deduced that she had probably phoned the police. Then, in the mother’s room, Carney sexually assaulted them both.
Carney returned inside after being stopped by the blue lights of passing police cars as he attempted to exit the premises.
The mother offered to unlock the gate and show him out the back entrance out of concern that they would become prisoners.
Later, she described to authorities how she had been terrified while entering the kitchen since knives were on display.
As soon as Carney exited the gate, two officers detained him.
He was taken to hospital, claiming to be high on spice and told police he had no memory of the incident.
