Anthony Joshua maintains weight advantage over Usyk ahead of rematch

Prior to their world title rematch in Saudi Arabia, British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua weighed more than 10 kilograms (22 pounds) more than Oleksandr Usyk, the current champion.

The two-time heavyweight champion Joshua weighed 110.9 kilograms (244.5 pounds) on Friday, August 19, while Ukraine’s Usyk weighed 100.5 kilograms (221.6 pounds), both weights similar to the bout in London last year.

The 90-second face-off between the competitors was followed by a handshake and a photo op.

“To me, none of this stuff—weight, competition—matters. The struggle is everything “Jeremiah said. “I’m only fully prepared for 12 rounds. Anything less is an added benefit.”

While many commentators have written off Joshua, the boxer has promised to be more “competitive”.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested Joshua will go for the knock-out.

The fight, tagged “Clash of the Dunes” will take place on Saturday, August 20, in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, the first heavyweight world title fight in the conservative kingdom.
