Olugbenga Owolabi, the owner of Tana Suites in Ogbomoso, and Rachael Opadele, a final-year student at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, who was also a hostage last week, were murdered by their kidnappers after a ransom was paid.
Along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, a motorbike driver who had been transporting a family member and the ransom to the predetermined location in the bush was also slain, with the passenger suffering injuries.
On Tuesday, August 2, the abductors shot the victims dead after receiving N5 million in ransom.
The victims’ bodies have been found in the jungle and placed in the mortuary of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.
A family source said the kidnappers became angry and killed the victims when they noticed the presence of soldiers at the LAUTECH area.
It was gathered that soldiers had stormed Ogbomoso on Tuesday in order to beef up security as a result of increasing rate of kidnapping in the area.
Meanwhile, students and some youths of the town on Wednesday staged a protest in Ogbomoso over the killing of the victims.
