Prison escapee and one other arrested for stealing electric cable

On July 16, men from the Ogun State Police Command detained Festus Okoeguare, a prison escapee, and Nancinant Paul Joshua for damaging an electricity cable.

The two suspects were detained after police officers at the Ogbere divisional headquarters received word that some thugs had destroyed the electrical plant at the Hallmark University intersection along the Shagamu-Benin expressway.

Following the information, the DPO Ogbere division gathered his troops and moved them to the scene along with the men of the Amotekun corps.

The criminals bolted as soon as they saw the security guards, speeding off in a getaway car they had parked with some cables.

Two of the other suspects were caught after being hunted ferociously.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on interrogation, it was discovered that Festus Okoeguare was an escapee from White House Correctional Center located at Sapele road Benin city. It was further revealed that the escapee was convicted of murder in 2010 and was sentenced to death by hanging. Abimbola added that i was during the ENDSARS protest that the prison was broken into and he escaped. 


Meanwhile, the commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for proper profiling and onward transferred to the Correctional Center.
