I Am Not Stingy, I Use Public Money For Public Good – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, refuted the claim that he is a stingy politician by stating that he prefers to use public funds for the sake of the public.

In doing so, he made a call on Nigerian politicians to manage the public finances that have been entrusted to them responsibly.

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, the Catholic Action of Nigeria, Umuahia Diocesan Chapter hosted an interdenominational prayer meeting at the Matter Dei Catholic Church. The former governor of Anambra State announced this.

According to The Punch, the event had in attendance dignitaries which include; Abia State governorship candidate of Labour Party, Dr. Alex Otti, Sen. Victor Ume of Anambra State; the Methodist Prelate, Kalu Uche; Christian Association of Nigeria, Abia Chairman, Apostle Agomuo; and Abia State chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria among others.

While making his speech, Obi said, “I am not stingy. I use public money for public good”.

The former governor also urged Nigerians to subject all the presidential candidates in the 2023 election to proper scrutiny, warning that failure to do that may result to anarchy.

Obi deemed it unacceptable that many Nigerians still go without food and “don’t know when the next meal will come” despite the abundant resources God has placed them.

He emphasized that while in office as governor of Anambra State, he never accepted anything from anyone and that he kept all state funds for the benefit of the Anambra people.

As President, Obi noted that “within two years, huge development will spread across the states and make border cities to be one,” emphasizing the need to shift Nigeria’s economy from one of consumption to one of production.

Otti stated in his speech that it is now appropriate for a new political party to seize control of both Nigeria and the state of Abia.

He said, “Obi shares and practices frugality. If we want to fix this country, we must have to cut the cost of governance”.

Obi had earlier made a stop at the residence of Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, before proceeding to the event.
