On Thursday, July 21, 2022, there was drama at a fictitious court case when an advocate arrived while being embraced in bed.
The woman attorney only known as Matoke stunned the virtual court session when she appeared before Justice Wilfrida Okwany of the High court Commercial and Tax Division and logged in while her partner was lying next to her in bed for the mention of a business-related case.
Several attorneys who were outraged by the lawyer’s actions and appearance in the virtual session asked the judicial officer to order her to dress appropriately in accordance with the court’s rules governing the conduct of attorneys and other litigants.
The attorney was consequently told to log out of the session right away and hunt for a proper location where she could conduct business while appropriately dressed and away from her bedroom before she could log in to follow the court proceedings.
In the Teams Virtual Platform, which the Judiciary created as a measure and intervention for the trial of cases instead of having parties physically appear in court, it is unclear which topic the attorney was following.
