For the suspected murder of a commercial sex worker at Kwanawa, in the Dange/Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, a man has been detained.
After the victim refused the N1000 he offered her, a dispute broke out between them, during which the customer is said to have fatally stabbed the victim with a knife.
According to local sources who spoke to Punch, the victim lived in a brothel in a district renowned for engaging in a variety of illegal enterprises.
According to a source, the persons who caught the suspect as he tried to flee after realizing the victim was dead were drawn to the scene by the alarm sounded by the hotel’s neighbors and bystanders.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, who confirmed the incident to Punch, said the suspect claimed to be a researcher who visited Sokoto State to carry out research.
Abubakar said the suspect decided to spend the night with the victim’s brother but said that trouble started when the suspect paid the victim N1,000.
The PPRO said the victim rejected the money, which resulted in a fight between them.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect claimed that the victim allegedly brought out a knife which he (the suspect) used to stab her after he overpowered her.
Abubakar added that the case had been transferred to the homicide section of the Command for proper investigation.
