Kano man remanded for lifting woman’s veil without consent

After admitting to removing a woman’s veil without her permission, a 28-year-old man was remanded at a Kano detention facility.

Mr. Badamasi Abubakar, a resident of Kano’s Dan Marke Hotoro Quarters, entered a guilty plea to indecent assault on June 23 in a Sharia Court.

The case was postponed to July 27 for the sentence by the judge, Ismai’l Muhammed-Ahmed.

Inspector Abdul Wada, who represents the prosecution, had earlier informed the court that Summaiya Abdul of the Dan Marke Hotoro Quarters had reported the incident to the Hotoro Police Station on June 21.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant claimed that at around 4:00 p.m. Without her permission, the defendant removed her veil, and when she challenged him, he hit her.

Mr. Wada said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 165 and 166 of the Penal Code.
