A 4-year-girl dies after parents leave her in car to attend funeral

A young girl passed away in a locked car after her parents left to go to a funeral.

While it was 49C outdoors, Sadia, 4, and her family traveled to Ramhormoz, Iran, for the funeral service.

She was left in the car while it reached 79C inside, which is hot enough to roast a chicken. She was asleep.

Sadia was discovered unconscious by the time her parents realized she was in the car.

Doctors determined that the girl suffocated and suffered from heat stroke.

A young couple left their four-year-old child sleeping in a car while they went to the young girl’s aunt’s funeral, according to Dr. Gholamreza Haidarnejad, the head of Ramhormoz’s forensics department.

“The parents who decided not to wake the child then forgot her because of their distress during the funeral.

“The child was left in the car for several hours in hot, sunny weather and the car doors were locked.”

The doctor added that the child died because of stress, heat intensity and lack of oxygen.

The devastated couple is receiving counselling and local police are investigating the tragedy.
