Illegal Drink Manufacturer Arrested In Akwa-Ibom (Photos)

The highest socio cultural organization of Ekid nation, Eket People’s Union today combed all the nooks and crannies of Okon Eket geopolitical zone, in search of illegal factories which has in recent times being causing serious health hazards and enviromental degradation to the inhabitants of the area.

This is coming on the heels of the excessive damage caused to the afang farm owned by a poor widow, Mrs Nse George Iyanam at Ikot Okudom, by dangerous substances suspected to be fumes from lead through burning of armoured cables by a neighbour who deals on electrical and allied materials.

Over the weekend, the President General of the union, Dr Samuel Udonsak ,in company of some executive members paid a fact finding and sympathy visit to the site and were shocked to see the extent of damage done to the only source of livelihood of the widow who lost her dear husband in 2006.

Based on this, the union wrote a strong worded letter to the Ministry of Environment, Uyo and other related agencies to look into this burning issue, in order to get to the root of the matter and proffer long lasting solutions on how to stem this ugly tide and nipped it permanently in the bud.

The combined team was led by the Eket Council boss, Rt Hon Akan Tommey , security operatives made up of the police, civil defence, state security services , top officials from the Enviroment Ministry, local government officials, Okon Youth Council and other relevant stakeholders.

Two illegal factories that deal on fake , adulterated and assorted hard drinks, wine were discovered in Ikot Abia and arrests made by law enforcement agents . Speaking with the press, the cracked team from the Ministry of Environment vowed to leave no stone unturned in seeing to it that Eket LGA is totally rid of fake products which constitute a nuisance to both humans and environment.

The Vice Chairman of Ikot Okudom Village Council, Mr Uwem Tom was full of praises to the Council boss, the apex Ekid union and the security agents for coming to restore peace, order and providing succour to the inhabitants of the ravage torn area.
He vowed to report any dubious person with questionable source of livelihood to the eagle eyed security agents

The Divisional Police Officer, Eket , Mr Sunday Digha , the PDP Standard bearer for Eket State Constituency, Dr Nsidibe Akata , Mr Jack Daniel Etteh of EPU, Eket Council Secretary, Hon Uso Hanson , the Supervisor for Environment, Mrs Stella Etukakpan , Eket Labour Chairman, Mr Godwin Ndueso , were part of the team among other dignitaries.
