Two motorcycle riders have admitted to killing a nursing mother, Chimhurumnanya Udeh, 21, violently and selling her 11-month-old son for N150,000 in Aba.
On Monday, June 21, the Abia State Police Command presented the suspects—Chimaobi Anyim Kalu, 25, and David Ogwo Orji, 21—before reporters, and they both confessed to the crime.
They allegedly brought the victim to a hotel, fed her yoghurt laced with piriton tablets, stabbed her to death with a shattered glass cup after she became unconscious, and then escaped with her unborn child.
The incident happened at Merry Home Hotels in Aba on April 15, 2022, according to State Commissioner of Police CP Janet Agbede.
According to Agbede, Felix Abengowe, the proprietor of Merry Home Hotels in Ogbor Hill, Aba, informed the police that he had discovered the body of an unidentified female with a severe neck cut in one of the hotel rooms.

“On April 16, 2022 at about 0010hrs, one Felix Abengowe, the proprietor of Merry Home Hotels Ogbor Hill Aba reported that an unidentified female corpse with a sharp cut on her neck region was found in one of his hotel rooms. Police detectives on arrival at the scene, were further informed that the suspects escaped with the deceased’s baby boy after killing her.
“Investigations revealed the identity of the victim as Chimhurumnanya Udeh, female, aged 21 years, a native of Edda in Ebonyi State, and resident at No.125 Umunkama road by St Dominic Ngwa road, Aba. Also, the name of the victim’s stolen baby was identified as Chimeremobioma Silver, aged about 11 months.
“Their confessional statements revealed that the suspects administered drug which according to them, is a mixture of Yoghurt and Piriton tablets on their victim before stabbing her with a broken glass cup on her neck and she died instantly. They also made away with her eleven (11) months old baby boy whom they claimed was sold for the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (150,000) only, which was shared equally among them”,
The suspects admitted to giving the deceased yoghurt laced with 8 piriton tablets in their confessional statements to newsmen. They used a shattered glass cup to stab her in the neck after she passed out.
One of the accused, Orji, asserted that his partner, Chimaobi Anyim Kalu, coerced him into fatally stabbing the deceased.
He claimed that the kidnapped child was sent to a man named Chukwuemeka James, who then sold the child to a female buyer for N150 000, which was split equally between them.
The suspects begged for pardon from the victim’s family and the wider public.
The CP did guarantee that more is being done to apprehend further suspects in connection with the murder and recover the young infant that was allegedly sold.
A flash drive containing CCTV footage as well as broken glass cups and black substance stained with oil paint were among the exhibits discovered with the suspects.
