Eight boat passengers abducted by pirates in Bayelsa state

Pirates kidnapped eight passengers on speedboats going for Yenagoa in Bayelsa State’s Brass-Yenagoa waterways.

The boat had about 15 passengers on board, and it was later discovered that they were returning from a funeral they had attended over the weekend.

Eight passengers were kidnapped and taken into the creeks, while the other seven were released. Mr. Daniel Biodoumoye, Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union in Brass Local Government Area, who confirmed the attack, said:

“The pirates intercepted the 200 horse power engine boat close to a rice farm and fled off with eight of the 15 passengers.”

Biodumoye also revealed that a combined rescue team of marine police, members of the union and others rescued the seven lucky passengers who were abandoned by the pirates.

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat also confirmed the attack, adding that they’ve increased effort to rescue the abducted victims and arrest the culprits.
