Students Scamper For Safety In Anambra, As Unknown Gunmen Invade School (Photos)

Gunmen have attacked schools in Onitsha and certain sections of Anambra State’s Idemili region, chasing kids out of the classrooms.

Gunmen are also claimed to have invaded markets and public locations in order to scare people away.

According to reports, the gunmen declared that today is “Biafra Day,” and that people should go home.

Every year on May 30, Biafra Day is commemorated, but this year’s edition fell on the same day as the Monday sit-at-home, which was observed yesterday.

The hoodlums are claimed to have insisted that today be celebrated as a sit-at-home day to commemorate the annual Biafra Day, despite the fact that yesterday was a regular Monday sit-at-home day, not Biafra Day.

Already, there were fears among the people earlier in the day about whether to go out or not and some of the people who stepped out have started returning to their various houses, according to The PUNCH.

It was also gathered that there are heavy shootings between security agencies and the gunmen in the Idemili area.

The police spokesman in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, did not take his calls for confirmation as students have returned home.
