An explosion in the Sabon Gari district of the state on Tuesday morning, May 17, killed at least four persons and injured several others.
CP Samaila Dikko, the State Commissioner of Police, acknowledged that the explosion was a gas explosion, not a bomb as widely claimed on social media.
Dikko, speaking at the scene, said the explosion was caused by a welding cylinder, and that four dead had been retrieved so far, with efforts underway to save the other victims.
“As of now, one female and three males have been killed. All the security agencies are here. The Civil Defence, Brigade commander, Air Force, myself and the director, DSS, are all on ground.
“We will extend our investigation and at the end of the day we will come out with exactly what happened.” he added.
Meanwhile, the area had been cordoned off by a combined team of security agencies, including Police, DSS, Civil Defence Corps.
A rescue team from National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service and Federal Road Safety Corp were also on ground to evacuate injured victims.
