Police have detained suspected kidnappers who have cited reasons for abducting a guy named Chuks Okoro.
Obinna Onuorah, 39, one of the accused, claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of their victim, whom he referred to as Oga Chuks. He claims he sold Oga Chuks a piece of land for N2 million, but the victim only paid N1.5 million. He claimed he kidnapped Oga Chucks after he failed to pay him the remaining N500, 000.
He stated he instantly informed his coworkers Shebba, Crystal, and Onwa, who assisted in the kidnapping planning.
When questioned, Shebba identified himself as Tochi Chilaka, an Abor Mbaise native. He admitted that after kidnapping Oga Chuks, he and the rest of the gang kidnapped another man around Abor Mbaise and Irite. He claimed that their female gang member, known as ‘Ashawo,’ hired them for the assignment. He mentioned the man they kidnapped at Irete.
One of the suspects, identified as Sunday, a native of Cross River state and a former prison convict, confessed to orchestrating the kidnapping of a drink vendor in his region. He said that because he sold alcohol wholesale, he knew the victim had money. He claimed he was imprisoned for attempted murder.
A female member of the gang who gave her name as Comfort, was arrested for hiding the firearms used by the syndicate. Her husband, who is currently at large, was part of the kidnapping syndicate. The police apprehended Comfort in her compound while using the vehicle obtained from one of their victims to learn how to drive.
