When factional hoodlums clashed with Hausa citizens in Ede, one person was slain.
Rasheed Olopa was killed in the clash, and others were injured to varying degrees.
A bunch of hoodlums led by a suspected assistant of a prominent land grabber have been terrorizing the Sabo hamlet of Ede, according to The Nation.
However, Gambo Ibrahim, the head of the Hausa community, is alleged to have reported the gang to their boss, stating that his people were being looted, extorted, and harassed.
According to reports, the leader, Rasheed Akiolu, issued a warning to the other faction not to assault the Sabo village, but it was ignored.
Rasheed allegedly ordered Sabo residents to arrest Olopa and his gang anytime they attacked them, according to a community source who asked not to be identified.
He advised them to kill them rather than handing them up to the police, who would free them in a matter of hours.
On Tuesday, our journalist gathered Olopa and his boys and went to Sabo to loot and extort them, but they were repulsed.
Three hoodlums were killed in the confrontation, including the factional commander.
Seriki Hausa, Ede Community, Gambo Ibrahim, confirmed thugs clashed with Hausa traders at the sabo community.
“During the attack, four to five people were injured. we have not ascertained if anyone was killed.
” The thugs numbering five came to Sabo, they were shooting sporadically. Some properties were stolen and many destroyed.”
Confirming the incident, Osun police command spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola said some hoodlums invaded the Sabo community in Ede and seized motorcycles belonging to some Hausa residents.
“However, the people in the community resisted them leading to pandemonium in the area and in the process one person was killed.”
