Man arrested while fleeing with two children abducted from a church in Ogun

Sakiru Famuyiwa, a middle-aged guy, was detained by men from the Ogun state police command on Friday, April 15th, in the Ijeja district of Abeokuta for snatching two children during a church service.

The suspect was apprehended after police officers at Ibara divisional headquarters received a distress call reporting that, while the celestial church of Christ Ijeja was holding a Good Friday service, the suspect and another person, who is still at large, sneaked into the children’s department and stole two children aged two and three.

A alert member of the church spotted them on their way out with the abducted children and shouted an alarm, prompting the congregation to pursue them and catch one of them.

When the DPO Ibara division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, received the distress call, he swiftly mobilized his troops and proceeded to the site, where the suspect was saved from an angry mob threatening to lynch him.

According to DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police public relations officer, the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department’s anti kidnapping section for discreet investigation. He further ordered that the accomplice be tracked down and prosecuted.
