At Gaida Yankusa in Kano state’s Kumbotso Local Government Area, an unidentified man, thought to be around 60 years old, committed suicide.
On Wednesday, April 6, neighbors of the area discovered the man hanging while on their way to the mosque for morning prayer.
Laminu Abubakar, a resident of Yankusa, told Daily Trust that they had untied the man and tried everything they could to identify him, but to no effect.
We had barely come out when we noticed the body hung from the tree. He’s an elderly man who appears to be in good health and shows no signs of poverty. Perhaps there are some additional concerns. “From his head to his beard, his hair is full of grey hair,” he added.
The deceased body was also said to have been transported to the mortuary at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano by the police and the district head of Kumbotso.
In a late Wednesday voice message, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying that the police received the report of the tragedy around 9 a.m. and immediately mobilised a team of officers to the scene, who rushed him to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
