Bandits assaulted the Angwar Maji hamlet in Jere town in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna state, reportedly abducting eleven persons and injuring one.
The village lies near the Abuja-Kaduna highway as well as the Kaduna-Bwari Road.
The attack has yet to be confirmed by Kaduna State police, but a resident told Channels Television that the bandits attacked the community late Sunday night, just a day after the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, announced the deployment of additional troops to the Abuja-Kaduna highway and surrounding communities.
The bandits, according to the source, stormed the neighborhood around 11 p.m. and opened fire before moving from house to house kidnapping the residents.
Some ladies whose husbands were ready to be dragged away attempted to oppose the attackers, according to the locals, and one of the women was hurt in the process.
Four of the captives reportedly escaped the kidnappers and returned to the town on Monday.
